Youth Initiatives

John Ralston Saul officially opened Pelham Park Youth Resource Centre on September 14, 2005. It is open to those between the ages of 13 and 25 living within the Toronto community. The centre provides youth with access to computers and other electronics, and programs that are catered to their unique needs. Since the grand opening, Pelham Park youth have delivered workshops on AIDS and healthy sexuality for their peers, created colourful masks which highlighted their creative flare and engaged local decision makers on youth issues.

Scadding Court Community Centre

Mr. Saul actively supports a number of events and programs at Scadding Court, in particular the “Investing in Our Diversity” Scholarship program. The SCCC is a multi-service agency that was founded in 1978. Located in the heart of downtown west Toronto, the Centre delivers a range of programs and services for seniors, adults, youth and children including recreation programs, sports programs, after four programs, services for new Canadians, and health services.

John Ralston Saul Award for Volunteerism

In 2002, Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School in Ottawa established the John Ralston Saul Award for Volunteerism. This award is presented to a graduating student who, throughout his or her high school years, best exhibits the start of a life-long commitment to the community and to international causes.
